Quickie Game Reviews – PSP Edition

Posted in PSP, reviews, video games on May 23, 2007 by spacewaffles

I got a good deal on a used PSP last weekend at Gamer Time, and have been playing it pretty regulalry in the dayes since, trying my hand at several games.

Mega Man: Powered Up: A remake of the original classic Mega Man game, done in cutesy, big headed chibi-style. The game plays well and has a ton of extras. There is also the ability to select your difficulty on a per-level basis, so if you just want to see the end, but Elec-Man is giving you trouble, you can switch over to easy mode. It also changes the difficulty of the level leading up to the boss, particularly making the platforming parts extremely easy.
The coolest new feature is you can unlock all eight of the robot bosses (yes, they added 2 new ones) and play through the game as them.

Metal Gear Acid 2: Crazy card based strategy game mixed with the sneaking around from Metal Gear. I could not quite figure this thing out. I played the first level about five times, which was about three tries more than I would normally give a game.

Street Fighter Alpha 3: Pretty good port of the game. They graphics looks pretty nice on the PSP’s screen. In widescreen mode it does look a little stretched to fit, but you can switch back to normal view mode if that sort of thing bothers you.

Lumines 2: I was really hoping to find the original, but it’s pretty much the same cool puzzle game mixing music and colors. Just uses new songs and backgrounds. Q! seems pretty good at that sort of thing.

Con Sketchbook Updated

Posted in Comics, Miscellaneous on May 18, 2007 by spacewaffles

I forgot to mention that I recently updated my Con Sketchbook on the RPC site.

These are all sketches done by other artists that I’ve collected over the last year or so. There aren’t nearly as many as I’d like, but a big part of that is that I didn’t really get around too much at this years EC3.
Brittany, being the awesome person that she is, got me the few new ones as I tried to stay at the table as much as possible. I have a bad habit of wandering away for too long, and I think it pissed Jeremy off last year. Sorry about that bro.

Jordan on Expert

Now, I know there are those Guitar Hero 2 wiz kids out there that have probably played through every song on expert with 5 starts, but for me things start to get rocky around Psychobilly Freak Out on Hard Mode.

I’ve been stuck on that particular song, so I decided to try my hand at Expert Mode, just for kicks. I was able to make it through the first tear of songs pretty well, mostly 4 stars, and then I though, I’ll give Jordan a try.

There is a reason it has it’s own achievement.

Jordan on Expert

That is the farthest I’ve ever made it on that particular song. I’ll keep trying though. It’s pretty dang fun.

Scrapbook

Jeremy finally had a chance to go through his pictures from Emerald City ComiCon this year, and found not many of them turned out, so he took the best and made a scrapbook page out of them. Enjoy!

New Compy and Stuff

The new computer came yesterday, and so far so good.

I hooked it up in the living room so it was within reach of the router. For whatever reason, I couldn’t seem to find a way to get Dell to build the thing with a wi-fi card in it.
Problem should be easily solved, though, as I picked up a dongle at Best Buy on my lunch break. I’ll know once I get home.

It also came with a fee month of Gametap, which I tried out almost immediately, as I knew the Sam and Max episodes are on there. Gametap seems pretty slick and easy to use and the library is very robust. I’ll keep it until I stop using it regularly, which is probably a ways off.

The new Sam and Max I can highly recommend to adventure game fans, or fans of things that are awesome. It’s in the old point and click adventure game style so you’ll feel right at home if you’ve played the original.
The humor and characterization are all top notch, as I would expect considering they have the original creator working on the game with them.
